Max Irons is the finely chiseled face of Macy’s affordable new INC line for men. Good looks and acting talent run in the family; he’s the son of the actor Jeremy Irons. Max will soon be jetting off to Louisiana to begin filming “The Host.” To prepare for his role, he is hitting the gym daily, sticking to his skincare regimen and to his dismay, trying to kick carbohydrates. I recently had tea with him at a London hotel in midtown.

T.T.: The spring men’s collection for Macy’s INC seems cool, wearable and very affordable. What do you like most about the clothes?

M.I.: Well, they are so comfortable. For me comfort is paramount. It all just feels like me. I don’t like shiny or stiff clothes; these are relaxed and have a lived-in feel and look.

    T.T.: Do you like shopping?

M.I.: No, not really. I like going to one place, where you can find everything you need in one stop, like Macy’s!

T.T.: What is your everyday go-to outfit of choice?

M.I.: Black jeans, a button-down shirt and lace-up oxfords. I never wear sneakers. I don’t feel comfortable in them.

T.T.: Do you ever accessorize with jewelry?

M.I.: I’m not one for jewelry. But I’ve been considering a nice watch. My wish-list item would be a Cartier watch with the Roman numerals, a square face … preferably in rose gold.

T.T.: You’ve done some TV and theater in school. Where does the modeling fit in?

M.I.: I modeled while I was attending drama school at Guildhall, in London. I was pretty penniless at the time, so it really helped financially. Plus, I quite enjoy it.

T.T.: Now you’re about to star in your second movie, “The Host.” How are you getting in shape for your role?

M.I.: The most effective part of my workout has been interval runs. That is where you power-up the treadmill and run as fast as you can for about six to ten seconds. Then you slow down for about 24 seconds, still keeping your heart rate up. You do this for a total of 10–15 minutes, depending on how conditioned you are. If you do it with the proper form, you’ll get a great overall workout, strengthen your heart and burn some calories. It’s intense.

Here are the first three photos of Max’s campaign for Macy’s INC Men’s Collection:

TO THE MAX: It was English actor Max Irons’ “natural style” that prompted Macy’s to sign him as the new face of its INC men’s collection. “We liked his polish and the fact that he isn’t well known yet in the U.S.,” said Nancy Slavin, senior vice president of marketing for Macy’s Merchandising Group. “But he’s on a trajectory and is quintessentially this brand. He wears the clothes very naturally.”

The ads, shot by Walter Chin and styled by Bill Mullen, are in black and white and feature Irons, son of Academy Award-winning actor Jeremy Irons, in both tailored and casual INC looks. It is the first time Macy’s has used an actor as a spokesman for the brand.

Irons will be featured online and his image will be in the 631 stores that carry the collection, beginning in February, when the shops are converted to spring merchandise, Slavin said. In addition, a short video of Irons discussing his personal style will be imbedded in the QR codes found in the INC departments, allowing customers with smartphones to view the film. “We’ve done similar things with Martha Stewart, Tommy Hilfiger, Rachel Roy and Bobbi Brown,” Slavin said, “and we’ve had huge customer engagement with these videos.”

If you’re a Macy’s shopper, expect to see Max gracing a poster or two in their men’s department!

Macy’s has snagged English actor Max Irons to be the new face of its INC men’s collection. Irons, who will play the leading male role of Jared in “The Host,” a film adaptation of “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer’s science fiction novel, in 2013, will appear in the brand’s spring 2012 men’s campaign. It will be shot by Walter Chin and styled by Bill Mullen. A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Irons is the son of Academy Award-winning actor Jeremy Irons, and the grandson of Cyril Cusack. In addition to still images, the INC campaign will include a short video of the actor discussing his personal style and self-expression.
